Hearts Desire(d): A Wedding Quilt For Sparkle Jane from Wedding Dress Blue

It is hard for me to believe, too. But Sparkle Jane is a grown woman and recently engaged.

He is a really good man, and they have been dating for over 1-1/2 years. We like him a lot and feel really good about the arrangement.

Which brings me to my point.

Many have you have watched Sparkle Jane grow up. Others are more recent arrivals. But, all are invited to help make a wedding quilt for them.

It will be based on this pattern: Heart-Blocks-Pattern.pdf (cluckclucksew.com)

And these colors.

Make one block either 4″, 6″, 8″ or ...

Bali Batiks by Sparkle Jane from Wedding Dress Blue

Sparkle Jane completed this beautiful quilt using batik scraps (thanks to Jennifer to held the giveaway).

She, too, enjoys quilts with a lot of different fabrics because of the interest and texture it creates.

And she made matching pillows using the cutoffs.

It is based on a pattern by Kim Brackett from one of her Scrap Basket books.

Sparkle Jane String Quilt from Wedding Dress Blue

Sparkle Jane (Daughter) wanted to try out a new technique–foundation string piecing.

DSC02007

She using the tan as a constant diagonal line in the blocks, adding random strips of controlled scrappy colors as she went along.

DSC02008

Narrow sashing between the blocks finished it off.

DSC02006

She enjoyed the technique, but didn’t love the colors.  But, it was worth finishing, and it is finished, and that (as we all know) is good.

A Sleuth Of Bears from Wedding Dress Blue

What do you call a group of bears?  A SLEUTH!!  What a fantastic word.

And what a great description for this finally-finished project that started with Sparkle Jane, but eventually involved all of us.

DSC01951

A high school friend of Sparkle Jane was involved in a service project making charity bears.  There were leftovers and Sparkle said she could make some bears.  There was A LOT of leftovers.  In typical Sparkle style, she cut until she couldn’t cut any more.

And then it was time to stitch.  Each bear, of course, needed to be unique.

Then she got tired and ...

Sparkle Jane Has Been Bee-zy from Wedding Dress Blue

Sparkle Jane (Daughter) has reached that age where friends are getting married and having babies.  Her friend of many years is due this fall and Sparkle Jane wanted to make her a wonderful and unique quilt.

DSC01959

Here it is!

The bee blocks are her own design.  The sunflower is adapted from a picture. And the squares, of course, are scrappy goodness.

It will be quilted soon and ready to go when the baby arrives.  Minky is planned for the back. Any suggestions for quilting?

Forget Me Not from Wedding Dress Blue

Well, it is a Sparkle Jane project.  She works at a local Sewing Machine and Fabric Shop.

They needed a block for Quilters Trek (fka Row by Row).  Fast.

DSC01927

I might be (a LITTLE BIT) biased, but I really like the design she created.  Some pieced elements, some applique.  Can be created vertically as a wall hanging (as shown here). Or horizonally in a row.  Tablerunner?  I want to make a baby quilt with the flower blocks and a section with the applique Forget Me Not words.

Or just make potholders.

If you are interested in a kit, you can ...

Sparkle Jane To The (Quilt) Rescue from Wedding Dress Blue

The original quilter tried, she really did.  The pattern is interesting, the fabric is high quality, the colors are beautiful.  But, she struggled with the piecing and assembly and eventually gave up.

Sparkle Jane saw potential. She fixed what she could of the piecing, while honoring the effort of the original maker. And assembled the top.

DSC01791

There was plenty of fabric, so she added a triple border–a narrow inner border, a lovely piano key center, and a wider outer border.

DSC01793

Extra fabric was used to make more “piano key” style pieces to stretch the back.

I am certain the ...

Campout: A Sparkle Jane Finish from Wedding Dress Blue

Sparkle Jane started this quilt when she was about 15 or 16.  She got the idea from a paper pieced pattern, but asked me if there wasn’t a way to resize or rework it to straight piecing.

DSC01771.JPG

I am not comfortable sharing the pattern because it is so like the original,  and I try to respect copywrite, but I must say that Sparkle Jane’s version is wonderful.

DSC01775.JPG

Tara, our quilter, did a beautiful job.

And it goes in Sparkle’s quilt hoard.

Sparkle Jane Finish: Blue Bargello from Wedding Dress Blue

Sparkle Jane has waited a long time for this finish.

DSC01644

She started the quilt about six years ago (age 13).  The piecing went well, but then it was time for quilting.  She started hand quilting it, got about half way and decided that she didn’t like the way it looked.

DSC01647

And TORE IT ALL OUT.  Painful!

DSC01645

And then put the quilt away.

DSC01646

But now it was time.  The quilting looks a lot like water over stones.  Which is perfect for the pattern.  Finish size is 82″ x 63″.
